A Great Start to Our New Season!

Thank you to everyone who came along to our first meeting of the new season – it was brilliant to see so many familiar faces and to welcome new members into the club.

The evening was a chance to catch up, enjoy a blether, and hear about the exciting year ahead. We introduced the programme of workshops, members’ nights, competitions, and guest speakers. Members also had the chance to see some of the club equipment on display – always a reminder of what’s available to use!

Heather put together a fantastic PowerPoint of the summer challenges, which sparked plenty of comments and discussion. It was great to see so many different interpretations and creative approaches.

Thank you again for making it such an enjoyable start to the season. We’re looking forward to the months ahead and all the photography, learning, and inspiration still to come.

Brian Clark from Dundee speaking about his love of Landscape Photography, with an emphasis on the practicalities of how he gets his images in the field and his use of filters.
This was an open night — non-members welcome.

Practical Workshop Night
Workshops on Portrait, Still Life and Macro Photography. Members were reminded to bring cameras and blank cards.

Sunday Outing – Kinpurney Den and Hill
Walk up the den with streams, small waterfalls and autumn colours. Energetic members could continue up to Kinpurney Hill for great views. Tripod and sturdy footwear recommended.
An email update was sent at 6 pm on Saturday if weather was poor and the outing cancelled.

Workshop – From Capture to Print
Covered a typical workflow from taking an image through to producing a finished print to competition standard. Included Q&A on workflow.

Informal Knockout Competition
Light-hearted head-to-head digital image competition. Members submitted either 2 or 4 JPEGs (max 10 MB). Entries emailed to the Competition Secretary by 23 December 2016.

Guest Speaker – Long Exposure Photography
Shahbaz Majheed of Dundee Photographic Society (also their website manager) presented on Long Exposure Photography.

Internal Club Competition – Theme: ‘A Book Title’
Judge: Al Buntin ARPS, MPAGB.
Div 1: mounted prints and digital files.
Div 2: digital files only.

Submit Images – Theme ‘A Book Title’ (Hand-in)
Division 1: mounted as per Competition Guidelines, + JPEG copy (max 10 MB).
Division 2: JPEG only (max 10 MB).

Members’ Topics Night
Four presentations by experienced members, followed by Q&A.

Sunday Outing – Glen Doll (Optional Event)
Members could meet up, spend part of the day together, and share tips/techniques. Travel arrangements shared nearer the time by email and Facebook.

Winter / Christmas Image Discussion
Return of the popular image discussion format. Members brought 3 prints (max 12"×8") on themes of Winter and/or Christmas. Shared in small groups.
Also a Competition Hand-in Night.

Members’ Night + Div 3 Open Competition
Members gave short talks. Division 3 Open Competition judged by Michael Visocchi.

Sunday Outing – Aberdeen Christmas Lights
Photograph Union Terrace Christmas lights/activities. Met at Bellies Brae Car Park at 2 pm. Left Aberdeen at 5 pm. Members were encouraged to team up for tips and maybe even create a Christmas card image.

Guest Speaker – Scottish Wildlife Photography
Andy S Hayes (Fettercairn) gave an illustrated talk on Scottish Wildlife Photography.
